Hello, I’m Tash.
Hi. I am Tash, the curator of The Book Case. An avid reader, a coffeeholic, a small business owner and a full time mom. And this is my story of how The Book Case was born and where it is today.
I was going through a very dark time in my life, where I am sure everyone has been once before for whatever reason, and I needed something, anything to shed some light and love back into my mornings. I needed to feel excited again. To smile without thinking. To take my mind off where my life was at that moment in time. And all of a sudden, while chatting to my husband about a plan to do something creative, a plan to do something for me, I sat on the bed and we said why don’t we just try. Lets just start. As with a dream, you can’t just think of it, you have to START. Start with a website. Start with a name. Start with a logo. Start making your dreams a reality. And that is exactly what we did.
The Book Case started in July 2016, and I have never looked back. My pride and joy. An adventure that brought and has kept bringing so much happiness to my life.
We released our very first case in October 2016. I can not explain how nervous I was sending those cases out. I mean I was still finding my feet in this business, learning the ropes of a bookish box owner. I was a business owner overnight and I had so much to still learn. But I took the risk and I planned the very first Book Case – SECRETS! The perfect theme for an introduction to a mystery book box in South Africa. The concept of subscription boxes and well book subscription boxes were still very new here and needed a little nudge in the right direction. And I was proud to be the original bookish box in SA. And nervous as how do you sell a product that no one knows what they are buying? Hmmmm! But everything just fell into place. The theme was released, the research was complete. And then we waited….
Our very first order came in, and then another and then another. I couldn’t believe it. The dream that I was holding onto for so long had officially become a reality. And oh boy, did I smile. I smiled a heartfelt smile, the first of many with this business. Then reality kicked in and I realised well now I actually have to do this. I have to hope that the book I have chosen, the goods I have complied are going to work together with the theme and hopefully bring joy to someone else. And on that first shipping day, I was a ball of nerves and that has not change even a little bit till now. The moment that I release my cases into the world (South Africa) to go off to there very special owners, you, I am still as nervous as that very first shipping day. Why? Well, I think of each case as my own something special, I want you all to enjoy them as much as I do, to love them as much as I do, and to spread the literary love with them. And I know that not everyone is the same or will enjoy the same things but I just want every case to bring as much love and happiness into your lives as it has into mine.
And let me just talk about the best part of this adventure. Yes, I love creating things. I love curating all your cases. But most of all, I have loved making new friends through bookstagram, making small business’s dreams come true, meeting the bookstagram community and just emerging myself in all things books. They say books are an insight into someones soul, that they take you on a journey like no other! And they have certainly taken me on an adventure of a life time. And that is where The Book Case is today, still on an amazing journey with so much still to come and it is all due to the support and love that we have received from every single one of you. So to end off, I would like to just say a heartfelt – Thank you!
